What is pet sitting, and how did it start?
While some pets do OK in a kennel environment, many pet owners, including myself, noticed that their pets were not happy when they had to be boarded. Not only were the pets stressed-out by having to travel from the comfort and security of their home to stay in strange surroundings, but the owners themselves were upset because they could tell that their pets were traumatized by the whole experience. It was out of this, desire of pet owners to avoid having to board or kennel their pets while they were away from home, that pet sitting was born. At first, people relied on their friends, family, or neighbors to care for their pets at home while they were away, but not everyone had that option, and as issues of pet emergencies and home security arose, pet sitting transitioned from an amateur pursuit to a full fledged profession.
